Infusions you can test

Ghee / Clarified Butter

Testing Olive Oil with tCheckOlive Oil

Testing Coconut Oil with tCheckCoconut Oil / MCT Oil

Testing Alcohol with tCheckAlcohol

  • Butter and some coconut oils solidify as they cool, and then will not test properly. Make sure your infusion is still in it’s liquified state before inserting the tray into your tCheck 2.
  • Alcohol must be clear, and at least 80 proof. Do not use flavored alcohol (you can blend your infusion after testing). Tests will not be accurate with dark alcohol, or flavored alcohol.
  • Never mix 2 bases together to test. Always make sure to use pure olive oil, butter, coconut oil, or alcohol. Mixing 2 supported bases together to test, or mixing something into the base before testing will nullify results.

Connecting to your device

  1. Insert the batteries into your tCheck 2, and turn it on.
  2. Make sure your Bluetooth settings on your phone are enabled. Do not use your phone settings to connect to your device- if you get a pop up from your phone, just exit out of it.
  3. Log in to the app, or continue as a guest, and click ‘Run Test’ to connect to your device.
  4. If you have connected to a device previously, the app will attempt to connect to that device.
  5. A screen will pop up showing the name and ID of your device.
    1. If your device does not show up, ensure that your device is on and the logo is glowing blue, then tap “Scan”.
    2. If you continue to have issues, check the t2 User Manual for more solutions (www.tcheck.me/uset2)
  6. Select your infusion base solvent, and then tap ‘Begin’.

Running a test

Remove sample tray if in device before powering it on. tCheck performs power-on self diagnostics and a tray may interfere with these self checks.

  1. Place tCheck on a flat level surface and turn on by pressing the power button.
  2. Open the sample tray by separating the top and bottom halves. The top half can be identified by the tCheck logo, put this aside for now.
  3. Place the bottom half of the test tray on a level surface, place approximately 4-5 drops of infused oil into the circular well area.
  4. Now place the top half of the tray onto the bottom, it’s OK if a small amount overflows out of the circular well area.Filling Tray Properly - tCheck
  5. Ensure that there are no bubbles in the circular well area.
  6. Follow app instructions to perform test.

Test running tips

  • Do not pick up or move the device around with the tray inside it or during a test. tCheck tests best indoors, or out of direct sunlight, as this can affect the accuracy of your results.
  • Shake your infusion before putting 3-5 drops into the bottom half of the tray.
  • To avoid an infusion from soldifying in the tray, wait until you are prompted to insert the tray before putting an infusion inside the well.
  • Make sure there are no bubbles or solid material (such as tiny plant pieces) inside the testing tray once you have put the top and bottom pieces together. Anything solid in the tray will null the results.

Measurement range

Measurement ranges for butter, coconut oil/MCT, olive oil, and alcohol are:

THC 1-15 mg/ml

CBD 1-15 mg/ml

THCa 1-10 mg/ml

Accuracy

Each individual tCheck device is calibrated at the factory using industry calibrated spectrometer standards. As with lab and industrial grade spectrometers, tCheck’s accuracy is +/- 15%.

If you get OVER measurement

Result displayed as ‘OVER’ means that the infused potency is stronger than tCheck is able to measure.

  1. Measure out a precise volume of your infusion (for example .5ml).
  2. Measure out 2x the volume of the uninfused base oil (if you first measured out .5ml, you would measure out 1ml of the uninfused base).
  3. Mix thoroughly. Proper mixing is vital to getting an accurate reading. Use tCheck to measure the potency of the diluted solution.
  4. Multiply the measurement reading in mg/ml form by 3. This is the potency of your original infusion. Be sure to use this final amount you have calculated when dosing.
  • Avoid diluting solution in the testing tray.
  • Shake the dilution to mix it thoroughly.

Using kit scaletCheck Scale

  • Check the batteries first if you are having any trouble with your scale.
  • Avoid using scale near (within 16 in) strong radio emitting devices like computers, and phones.
  • Do not exceed maximum capacity (20 g).
  • Scale performs best at room temperature. Avoid exposure to extreme heat or cold.
  • Allow scale to warm up for 30 seconds prior to use.
  • Gently apply all items to be weighed. Do not drop items onto the weighing platform.
  • Always use on a flat and level surface, away from breezes.

Battery installation

Before using the scale for the first time, you need to place 2 AAA batteries in the scale. To do this:Putting batteries in scale

  1. Turn scale over and remove bottom door to expose battery compartment.
  2. Place 2 AAA batteries into compartment following “+” and “-” symbols on scale. Replace bottom door and turn on scale to ensure batteries are inserted correctly.

Taring (or zero’ing)

Turn on your scale and allow it to zero itself. You can always re-zero the scale by pressing the tare button. If the scale was tared without the metal sample dish, you must re-tare the scale if you place the dish on the scale.

Mode (or units)

This scale can display the weight of your material in several different units.

Display Units
g Grams
oz Ounces
ozt Troy ounces
dwt Pennyweight (denarius weight)
ct Carat
gn Grain

Setting scale to gramstCheck scale interface

After you have tared your scale, put it on the ‘g’ setting.

Note that the tCheck app takes input in terms of milligrams (mg) which is 0.001 g. On your scale, 100 mg would display as 0.100 g.

Scale notifications

  • Battery icon- Replace batteries
  • “FULL” display- Maximum capacity exceeded (>20 grams)

How to test flower

  1. Collect one sample container, stirring stick, reagent, 10 ml syringe, a 1 ml syringe, and filter.
  2. Weigh out between 100-250 mg of flower (a pea-sized amount) and place it on the scale. The metal sample dish is helpful if the sample is crumbled, or in multiple pieces, but that is optional.
  3. Record the weight of your sample. If you record this incorrectly, it will null your results.
  4. Remove the lid on the sample container, and carefully put your cannabis flower into the container. Use the swizzle stick to gently break up the flower. Ensure that no plant material is stuck to the swizzle stick.
  5. Using the 10 ml syringe, draw out exactly 10 ml of reagent and slowly push it out into the sample container with your cannabis. Screw the blue lid onto the container and ensure it is sealed well. Shake it for 5 minutes at a minimum but no longer than 10 minutes.tCheck 10 ml testing syringe
  6. Allow the sample liquid to settle for a few seconds. Use the 1 ml syringe to draw approximately 0.5 ml of infusion without using the filter.*Do not test your sample infusion after 15 minutes. Your test results will not be valid if cannabis sits in the reagent for longer than 15 minutes. Dispose of accordingly.
  7. Attach the filter to the nozzle of the filled 1 ml syringe. Insert approximately 0.25 ml (4 to 5 drops) of the infusion through the filter and into the indented well on the bottom tray on a flat, level surface.tCheck 1 ml testing syringe
  8. Close the tray by placing the upper half of the lid onto the bottom portion, ensuring no bubbles are visible. A small amount of liquid may squeeze out of the circular measurement area. There should be no floating plant material in the sample. If there are bubbles, open the tray and add more of the filtered analyte.Filled tCheck testing tray
  9. Turn on your tCheck device and ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device. Then, open the tCheck app and click the “Run Test” button at the bottom of the screen.
  10. At the Select a device screen, click on the serial number that appears. Select the “Flower” option to begin testing. Follow onscreen instructions in the app to complete your flower test.

How to test concentrate

  1. Collect one sample container, stirring stick, reagent, 10 ml syringe, a 1 ml syringe, and filter.
  2. Weigh out between 30-110 mg of concentrate (about the size of a grain of rice, depending on the type of concentrate) and place it directly into the metal dish on the scale. If the concentrate is sticky or difficult to handle, we recommend using a sample spoon. If the sample spoon is to be used, be sure to tare the scale with the spoon before you collect your sample for a more accurate sample weight.
  3. Record the weight of your sample. If you record this incorrectly, it will null your results.
  4. Remove the blue lid to the sample container, and carefully put your concentrate directly into the container. If your concentrate is on the sample spoon, put the entire spoon into the container.
  5. Using the 10 ml syringe, draw out exactly 10 ml of reagent and gently expel it into the sample container with your cannabis. Quickly replace the blue lid onto the container and ensure it is sealed well. Shake it for 5 minutes or until the sample is complete dissolved.tCheck 10 ml testing syringe
  6. Allow the sample liquid to settle for a few seconds. Use the 1 ml syringe to draw approximately 0.5 ml of infusion without using the filter.
  7. Attach the filter to the nozzle of the filled 1 ml syringe. Insert approximately 0.25 ml (4 to 5 drops) of the infusion through the filter, and into the convex well of your tCheck 2 tray bottom on a flat, level surface. An exact amount is not necessary.tCheck 1 ml testing syringe
  8. Close the tray by placing the upper half of the lid onto the bottom portion, ensuring no bubbles are visible. A small amount of liquid may squeeze out of the circular measurement area.Filled tCheck testing tray
  9. Turn on your tCheck device and ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device. Then, open the tCheck app and click the “Run Test” button at the bottom of the screen.
  10. At the Select a device screen, click on the serial number that appears. Select the “Concentrate” option to begin testing. Follow onscreen instructions in the app to complete your concentrate test.

Interpreting your results

The results will be a percentage of cannabinoid content. Once you get your test results, you can add notes about your sample including strain type, extraction method, and so on. Notes can help you keep track of what you tested and when. Results and notes are stored in the Log section of the app.

Taking care of your tray

Important! Follow the guidelines below for proper tray care. Even minor damage to your tray can lead to incorrect results. In the event that a new tray is required, you will need to return your device for recalibration.

  • Your tCheck tray, if properly cared for, should last the life of device (roughly 1,000 tests).
  • Hand wash tray after each test, with non-abrasive cleansers. Wipe and dry it with a soft cloth.
  • Washing tray in dishwasher will destroy it.
  • Do not allow boiling hot liquids to touch your tray.
  • If infusion solidifies in the tray before running a test, you will need to wash it and start over.
  • Do not handle your tray unless your hands are clean. Certain lotions, essential oils, and other contaminants can cloud and damage the tray.
  • Do not set your tray down on a hot surface.

Immediately after you are satisfied with your testing results, gently hand wash your tray with dishwashing liquid (i.e., Dawn). Never place your tray on a hot surface or put it in the microwave or dishwasher. This will damage your tray and bring great sadness to your tCheck device.

Cleaning other accessories

The sample containers and spoons may be cleaned using a non-abrasive cleanser. Do not microwave or clean the sample containers in a dishwasher.

The scale may be cleaned by wiping it with a damp cloth. Stickier substances may be cleaned with rubbing alcohol. Do not submerge the scale.
